Does removing wisdom teeth change face shape?

Every year many adults undergo the wisdom tooth removal process. The absence of proper treatment in some cases can lead to serious problems later in life. One of the questions that patients ask often is whether or not the extractions will change the shape of their faces.

Well, the change in your outer appearance or facial structure depends on many other factors, including the teeth extraction process. So, you can see some differences but not anything major or concerning.

Wisdom teeth form at the end of the jaw’s molar development. Due to their large size, most people cannot accommodate them, so they go for the tooth extraction option. In addition, any change in the shape of your face that may result from this procedure is far outweighed by the benefits you get from it.

Will wisdom teeth removal change the shape of your face?

Well, the answer to this varies from patient to patient. You might notice a few changes in how your face appears just after the treatment but not any major changes. In addition, you can expect your face to return to normal after the swelling reduces and you resume your normal diet.

So, in short, the answer to this question is no. There are no severe changes in your facial appearance after the wisdom teeth extraction because that area is not directly connected to the basal jawbone.

Therefore, you do not have to worry about your appearance while undergoing the extraction procedure. It is an entirely safe process, and to ensure you feel less to no pain, your dentist can use local anesthesia.

What to expect after the wisdom tooth is removed?

A soft tissue pocket surrounds the wisdom teeth, including muscle and fat. Hence, when the tooth is extracted, the surrounding tissues may suffer trauma. As a result, you may experience some swelling right after the treatment.

As a result, you may feel some swelling in your face after the procedure. It will take some time for your body to heal, but as it does, you’ll see the swelling subside, and everything will return to normal.

Apart from some swelling, the skin and the delicate tissue around the gums consist of the underlying fat, and muscles are not affected during the whole process.
