How Dental Health Affects Your Body – Part 1

In our last blog, we touched on the general reasons dental health is important. As Port Lavaca’s dental experts, we are equipped to keep your teeth healthy, strong, and pain-free. We cannot do this if you never come to see us!

Many people do not realize how closely connected your dental and general health are. What happens in your mouth can affect a completely different part of your body. In the next two blogs, we will explore the areas of your body that are affected by your dental health.

Your Heart

  • When your gums get inflamed and infected, the bacteria can enter your bloodstream.
  • The bacteria travels to your heart’s arteries and makes them harder, which creates plaque buildup and decreases or blocks the blood flow to your body. As a result, you end up living with a greater risk of heart attack.
  • The bacteria can also infect the inner lining of your heart and make it inflamed. This is called endocarditis.

Your Lungs

  • Gum disease increases the possibility of infections in your lungs, including pneumonia.
  • While the connection is not as direct as the one to your heart, your mouth has a direct connection to your lungs and over time, issues will crop up.

Don’t let your dental health create bigger problems for you. There is no reason to let this happen when Lavaca Dental provides such a great care for such affordable prices. Our clinic offers everything from dental whitening to oral surgery. Make an appointment with us!
