Encourage Healthy Dental Habits in Kids – Part 1

We all know that teaching people good habits when they are kids helps them out when they grow up. When you have kids, the number of good habits that need to be taught can be overwhelming. Sometimes, tooth brushing falls by the wayside as potty training and more take precedence. At Lavaca Dental, we understand! Having children is a lot to manage. That is why we are going to take the next two blogs to share some tips for painlessly integrating positive dental training into your child’s life.

1. Have fun!

It doesn’t matter what kids are doing: if it is fun, they will enjoy it. However, if something seems like a chore, you will have a very hard time getting them to comply consistently. By letting your child be creative with the process, you will give him/her some control and the ability to have fun. No kid can resist that.

2. Brush after sweets

Don’t make a big deal out of it; simply have your kids brush their teeth after they eat sweets or drink sodas. Do this every time from the beginning, and they will accept it as normal. Getting clean bills of health from their dentists for years to come will be the wonderful benefit!

3. Music makes everything better

You can play part of a song and train your children to keep brushing until it is over. This can be an extremely fun way to make the time fly and to give their teeth enough attention.
