Cleaning Up Dental Myths – Part 3

When it comes to your teeth, knowing more is always better. At Lavaca Dental, we want to empower each of our patients to keep their teeth as healthy as possible. Unfortunately, there are many myths out there that prevent people from caring for their teeth right. We are using our blogs to tackle them. In our last blog, we busted two myths about bleaching your teeth and using aspirin to dull pain. Today, we have two last myths to bust!

More sugar always means more tooth damage

Though sugar isn’t good for your teeth, it isn’t the main issue. There is bacteria in your mouth that eats away at your enamel, and it feeds off of sugar. You have to keep your mouth free of bacteria whether you eat a lot of sugar or not. At the end of the day, people who don’t eat sugar but have bad dental hygiene end up with serious damage anyway. Therefore, the key is brushing and flossing your teeth, not cutting out all sugars!

Don’t brushing bleeding gums

Brushing is just as important for gums as it is for teeth. It stimulates the tissue and cleans the trouble zone where plaque builds up and causes gum disease. If your gums are inflamed, you should still brush them. Do it gently and make an appointment with your dentist to get everything checked.
